Papers.&.Other.Documents

Below are some papers or other documents I have written (most likely for a class). I do not claim that anything here is a new thought or even a well articulated argument… I am not a scholar; I do not write like one. Also, it is possible that my views have changed since I first wrote anything here, so if you have a question about something please ask.

A Theology of Youth Ministry (Spring 08) A paper I wrote for a youth ministry practicum/class that presents a quick look at some of the key questions in youth ministry.  It’s more about the lens we look through than the practical implications.

New Creation in 2 Corinthians 5:17 (Fall 08) This is a paper I wrote for my New Testament:Acts-Revelation survey class. The topic was to “Explore the implications of Paul’s notions of “new creation” in 2 Corinthians 5:16-21.

Christology In Revelation (Fall 08) This is a paper I wrote for my New Testament:Acts-Revelation survey class.  We had to do something related to the book of Revelation.  I choose to do a brief study on how Christ is presented in the book.

A Lament Psalm (Winter 09) This is a psalm of lament that I wrote for my Old Testament: Writings class.  It’s written from my perspective of the perspective of the homeless.

Kuyper on Calvinism and Art (Spring 09) This is a paper I wrote for my Perspectives on Christ and Culture class.  Basically just a summary of a chapter from Kuyper’s “Lectures on Calvinism” and a response to a scenario.

Essay on Augustine’s “A Treatise Concerning the Correction of the Donatists” (Spring 09) This is a paper I wrote for my Early Church History class.  Augustine’s treatise concerned the Donatists (an early schismatic group) and the role the government plays in religion.

The Complex, Mysterious, Beautiful Meal (Summer 09) This is a paper I wrote for my Systematic Theology 3 course (Ecclesiology and Eschatology) on the Lord’s Supper / Communion / Eucharist / Mass.  I didn’t say everything I wanted to say, nor did I get a chance to create a couple of appendices (A: Some Practical Implications; B: A Possible Service/Liturgy).

Hearing the Cry in the Torah (Fall 09) This is a paper I wrote for my Old Testament: Pentateuch class on the theme of “Hearing the Cry.”  It takes a brief look at how God and individuals hear the cry (of oppression, despair, etc.) of individuals and groups – both those of the chosen line and “outsiders” – and the response to hearing their cry.

The Resurrection Body (Spring 10) This is a paper on 1 Corinthians 15:35-49 that I wrote for my exegetical class on 1 Corinthians. According to Paul, the resurrection body is a different sort of body than what the Corinthians might expect – and God is more than capable of creating such a body, because he already does so in the present age.

Building Community in the Pauline Writings (Summer 10) This is a paper I wrote for my class, “The First Urban Churches” – which explores some major personal, interpersonal, and structural aspects of building community as found in the Pauline writings.
